How it works

Applicants rank the universities they want. Universities rank the applicants they want. An algorithm finds the best mutual fit — and no one has to commit to a school before they know their options.

Applicants rank honestly

Students submit a ranked list of participating universities. Ranking truthfully is always the best strategy — there is no advantage to be gained by guessing at the odds or playing the field.

Step two

Universities rank applicants

Each member institution commits a number of early seats and submits its own ranked list, using whatever holistic criteria it already uses. Applicants left off a list are simply not admitted there.

Step three

The match runs once

Deferred acceptance pairs students with universities so that no student and school would both rather have each other than the outcome they got. One run, one result, no scramble.

Why it matters

Early admissions has become a game of leverage. Students are asked to commit before they can compare, and the families who know how to work the system gain an advantage that has nothing to do with fit.

Membership is incremental. A university can commit a small number of early seats to the match, see how the results compare to its own early round, and expand from there — the same way residency matching grew, one program at a time.

Start small

Commit as few or as many early seats as you choose. Seats placed in the match are filled through the match; everything else stays as it is.

Keep your criteria

The match takes your rankings as given. It has no opinion about how you evaluate applicants — only that you say clearly whom you prefer.

A stable match produces a predictable early cohort, with less of the yield guesswork that makes early rounds difficult to plan around.
